See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

Hello there! Names are dumb, so you can just call me Potato Artist/Jude if you must :)

My pronouns are they/them. I like drawing, ranting about my hyperfixations, and writing. Be prepared for a lot of completely unrelated stuff on here. My mind is simply pure chaos.

I’ve got one fanfic that’s ongoing(edit: lost interest for now, it’ll be on hold). If anyone wants to chat with me about that, or one of the many hyperfixations I have collected, or just freak out about prehistoric creatures, send an ask! I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I don’t know about others but the only reason I put both is so that whichever someone clicks on, they will find my fic. So if there is supposed to be rules, I guarantee you that no writer knows these ones. We can barely get people to comment, you think we’re going to specifically choose & or / ? Hell no.

I’ve been in fandom for twenty years, and “/” means romance and “&” means no romance was literally one of the first things I learned. It dates back to Star Trek fanfiction of the 70s. I’m boggled by the fact that anyone who’s been reading fic on AO3 for more than like five minutes wouldn’t know that, and I’m curious as to what fanfic community you come out of.

I don’t think that tagging with both is actually going to get your fic in front of more readers. People looking for romance often exclude the “&” tag if there are too many gen fics tagged with both. People looking for gen often exclude the “/” tag if there are too many fics with both. So rather than putting your fic in front of twice the people, you are in fact more likely to get your target audience ignoring your fic because it has a tag they don’t want.

Also, by overtagging you are more likely to annoy potential readers away from your fic than entice them. A fic tagged both & and / better have both romance and a ton of platonic interaction between the two characters, like a slow burn romance friends-to-lovers arc. If it isn’t, I’m going to be very unhappy because the author lied to me with the tags to try and trick me into reading a fic with deceptive advertising.

When I’m in a fandom and see tagging where some of the tags don’t really apply and are just there to get it in front of more eyes, I’m going to assume one of two things. Either the author is a newb who doesn’t know anything, or the author is purposefully spamming the tags because they don’t care about lying to their potential audience and think that “spray and pray” is an effective tactic. In the first case, their writing probably will not be very good, so why bother reading their fic. In the second case, the fact that I can’t trust the tags to be accurate means I’m not going to read it to see if it’s interesting even if it has a tag I like. Chances are, that tag isn’t actually in the fic anyway, and even if it is, by spam-tagging the author is making the archive harder to use for everybody. Why would I reward bad behavior with attention? No. Far better to mute the author and move on.

More to the point--and no, I will never stop harping on this, because we have GOT to stop leaving our strongest points in the drawer--it doesn't matter if you heard of this convention before joining AO3 or not, because it's in AO3's tagging FAQ.

[id: the "How do I tag a romantic or platonic relationship?" section of the tagging FAQ here.]

"But Jo," you may argue, because you're wrong. "There's no way to find that without digging through site FAQ menus, and that's really inaccessible!"

sure

except

that when you go to post a new fic, and you go to put in those relationship tags, you see this

[id: the Relationships field]

and that tooltip, the one THERE TO EXPLAIN HOW THE FIELD WORKS, links to the Relationships segment of the tag FAQ, which explicitly lays this shit out.

I don't care if you don't know fandom history. I don't care if you've never heard a goddamn word about the spirk shippers. I don't care if you've never been exposed to fandom culture in your life. It is, frankly, not fair to expect those things of everyone.

What is entirely fair to expect is that you will READ THE INSTRUCTIONS PRINTED NEXT TO THE FUCKING BOX, actually. Forget fandom conventions. It genuinely doesn't matter whether you agree with or respect fandom conventions. This is a site policy. This is explicitly how tagging on AO3, specifically, works.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE i have had to deal with the a couple times and it gets annoying fast

hey!! welcome home fandom!!

i politely ask that you stop scrolling and read what i have to say, please,,!! thank you :)

i'm not so sure how many of us actually follow party coffin (not @'ing them to avoid them getting severely stressed), but there are some things as a fandom that we really need to be made aware of

party coffin is getting very very stressed out, and rightfully so! they're a more small creator with a huge following out of the blue for their work, which has to be an extremely heavy burden to carry (i get overwhelmed just getting a bunch of likes on a post, so i can't imagine--)

not only that, but a lot of of people on social media sites everywhere are not taking party coffin's mental health and boundaries into account, leading to very stressful and quite frankly fear inducing posts being produced. posts where their personal crafts/projects, images including wide shots of their home (namely with the Wally puppet), literal impersonators, people posting nsfw content of their characters before they're ready, etc etc

overall, a concerning amount of the fandom is just... not realizing that party coffin is one person,, a guy behind the screen, just like you and me, who just wants to make something that makes them happy,, but if this keeps going, the things that brought them, and i'm sure a lot of us, joy and comfort will be gone.

party coffin is in a dangerous living situation that i'm sure a lot of us know and relate to all too well, and spreading images of their room can put them in great danger. the wrong people could find that, and find out who they are, and put them at risk. not only that, but the other boundary breaks are just adding to the stress of living in a scary home, and just overall making their mental health decline,,

with all this being said, clown really really needs our help to make welcome home a home again. so here's some things that we can all do to help, if we are able:

i'm sure some of us have done this stuff on accident (i'm going to browse through my own profile to delete/edit any posts that might have crossed a boundary without my realizing). it's incredibly easy to accidentally break boundaries without realizing they're even there. and that's okay; just take down the post, apologize, and move on. that's one of the best things you can do right now.

another thing that you can do (if you are able to ofc; i currently an unable to but i wish to spread the word as much as possible) is to donate to their ko-fi. for just a few dollars, the price of a cup of coffee (i believe?), you can financially support them and assist them in getting out of the situation that they're in. if you can't do that, send kind words to their inbox (but do not spam!!!! be respectful)! make them fanart that will make their day! let them know that we as a community are there for them and have their back!!

one last thing that we can do is to help spread the word to other social media sites. reblog this post. make psas for those only on tiktok or youtube or twitter, etc etc. heck, even politely (emphasis on politely) remind people who made these posts that may not be aware of this. report impersonators and videos that are actively harmful to clown. just remember to be respectful throughout all of these interactions.

of course, there are probably a plethora of things that i might have missed that i urge you to add on to this post with reblogs and comments. but ultimately, we need to remember that welcome home isn't a game, isn't just another piece of media to binge and go crazy for. it's a passion project created by a creator who loves what they do and wants to create a nice home, for them, and for us. so please do whatever you can to keep it that way. make this fandom a safe place. make the neighborhood a nice one. be kind, be friendly, be caring, and be the absolute most.

please do what you can and spread the word!!!!! thank you so much for taking the time to read, and i hope you have a wonderful day :)

One famous skeleton, found in Shanidar cave in Iraq, illustrates particularly well the extent to which evidence for caring behaviours has changed our assumptions about the character of our ancestors. This particular skeleton, Shanidar 1, or ‘Ned’, has been the subject of much debate about the emotional dispositions of Neanderthals (Homo sapiens neanderthalensis) and the extent to which they were kind or callous.

Ned had certainly had a very rough life. He lived around 45,000–70,000 years ago and survived a remarkable level of injury and impairment. His bones were excavated between 1957 and 1961, and demonstrated many different injuries. Probably, as a young adult, he had suffered a blow to the left side of his face, resulting in blindness or only partial sight in one eye. He also had a hearing impairment; a withered right arm, the lower part of which had been lost after a fracture, and possible paralysis; deformities in his foot and leg, leading to a painful limp; and advanced degenerative joint disease. How he suffered his eye-watering range of injuries is not entirely clear, though there has been speculation that he may have been injured in a rock fall.

What was remarkable about this individual was not his injuries themselves but the length of time over which he had survived despite them. He had been injured at least 10 to 15 years before his death, with the curvature of his right leg compensating for injuries to the left. Yet Ned lived until he was aged between 35 and 50, relatively old for a Neanderthal, despite his range of debilitating impairments. These restricted mobility, ability to perform manual tasks, and perception. Solecki (1971), and later Trinkaus and Shipman (1993), argued that he could not have survived without daily provision of food and assistance. Trinkaus and Zimmerman even commented (1982: 75) that Neanderthals ‘had achieved a level of societal development in which disabled individuals were well cared for by other members of the social group’. Aside from Ned himself, there are many other cases suggesting care against the odds. We now have a wealth of evidence for Neanderthal care, with more than 20 cases of probable care for illness or injury recorded. In many, it is clear from the severity of illness or injury and evident lack of possibility of recovery that only genuine caring motivations rather than any calculated reasons explain the help the injured received.

After his treatment in life, Ned was also carefully buried after death.

heard about this in trey the explainer's video about disabilities in prehistory REALLY strong evidence that accommodation and care is an inherent human quality and that the social darwinism “survival of the fittest” is a load of bull i love this story
